About the Winery
Skinner Vineyards’ Green Valley Ranch in Rescue is part of a family story the winery traces back to James Skinner, who established one of California’s early wineries in 1861. The ranch sits in the El Dorado appellation at 1,214 feet on red-hued sandy-loam soils, and its flat, open terrain supports a vineyard mix centered on Rhône varieties, including Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Viognier, Roussanne, Grenache Blanc, Bourboulenc, and Picpoul Blanc.
The experience at Green Valley Ranch is built around tasting flights, picnicking, and time outdoors in a park-like vineyard setting shaded by mature trees. Rather than feeling like a quick bar tasting, it leans into a slower visit on the patio or lawn, giving guests room to settle in and work through Skinner’s El Dorado wines in a more relaxed format.

Green Valley Ranch is a good stop to expect a broader Rhône-focused lineup, including several whites that are less common in many tasting rooms. Because this site differs from Skinner’s hillside ranches, the wines here are tied to a flatter, lower-elevation growing environment with its own profile.
This is also a place to plan for a more spread-out visit rather than a quick in-and-out tasting. If you can, give yourself enough time to sit down with a flight or bring a picnic and let the tasting unfold at a slower pace.
