Cappelli Wine

Winery Overview
Cappelli Wine was created by Marco Cappelli and his wife, Belinda, after Marco built a career spanning UC Davis, Tuscany, Sauternes, Napa Valley and more than two decades of work in the Sierra Foothills. From its downtown Placerville micro-winery, Cappelli produces a changing selection that can move from Zinfandel, Alicante Bouschet and Rhône-inspired blends to fortified Muscat and a multivintage Angelica made from historic Mission vines. Its refillable bottles reflect a practical philosophy drawn from European village wine merchants: locally sourced wine intended for the table, packaged for reuse rather than display.
The tasting room occupies a restored circa-1895 building on Main Street and welcomes visitors without reservations. Guests can sample six to eight wines in a flight, order individual glasses or return bottles for refill, with pizza offered on selected evenings and charcuterie available throughout the week. Because the menu changes as small lots are released, a visit offers a useful opportunity to explore both familiar Foothill varieties and wines that rarely appear together in a conventional tasting lineup.
Before You Go
Cappelli is a downtown micro-winery, not a vineyard property, and its selection is built around a rotating group of wines from several California growing areas. Expect the menu to cross categories, with dry reds and whites presented alongside sparkling wine and distinctive fortified bottlings.
The flight is the clearest way to understand the range, especially when unfamiliar grapes or blends are being poured. Stay open to moving outside your usual preferences, since the most revealing comparison may be between a structured Foothill red and the aged Mission-grape Angelica that follows it.
