About the Winery
Boeger Winery is a multi-generation family estate in Placerville whose roots stretch from an 1849 Gold Rush homestead to the first modern-day post-Prohibition winery in the El Dorado AVA. Working with 80 acres and thirty-three grape varieties, Boeger has built a distinctive identity around Italian and Spanish varietals, including estate bottlings that lean food-friendly and structurally bright.
A visit here can take several forms, from a casual six-wine tasting at the bar to a more intimate seated experience in the historic cellar. The grounds add another layer: gardens for picnics, a relaxed family-friendly atmosphere, and a cellar tour experience that makes the property’s long history part of the tasting itself.

Boeger is a good place to reset expectations if you usually scan for only the standard California lineup. Its program reaches deep into Italian and Spanish varieties, so the tasting may feel broader, more savory, and more food-oriented than a winery built around a narrower Bordeaux or Rhône mix.
The best approach is to let the range work on you instead of locking into one familiar grape too early. If you have the time, the historic cellar experience adds context that helps the wines make more sense, because Boeger is as much about continuity of place as it is about any single bottle.
